Meet Mr. Santosh Kumar Yashswi, locals call him Madhubani Artist!

Mr Santosh lives in Patna, Bihar, the North-Eastern part of India.

Bihar is the heart of Madhubani Paintings. The locals call Santosh, “Madhubani artist”. He says “I am very happy to hear that. It’s a little childish though”

His father’s name was Mr Jamuna Prasad, who served as a draftsman in the local government. One day, when Santosh was a young kid, his father accidentally found out about his painting skills. Mr Jamuna was extremely impressed and encouraged him to take on this art. His father remained the main inspiration for Santosh to become one of the best Madhubani artists, with his own unique signature style of Madhubani paintings.

Santosh has been creating beautiful Madhubani painting for almost 20 years. Santosh explains that the Madhubani painting has its own identity, every single natural colour is used in this painting.

This painting is mainly line-oriented and colour-based, outside the paintings, the fish flower, fruit bird design patterns and border are made, there is no empty space left. Another unique feature of Madhubani painting is the use of the black colour double outline, which is called Kachni. Which makes it quite beautiful.

He says very a lot of proud that this painting is folk art is over 2000 years ago. It has been going on since the time of Ramayana. This painting used is made on the walls, but now canvas and handmade paper. In 1948, India’s folk art was exhibited for the first time in London.  Santosh is now also coaching younger students to become the next generation of Madhubani artists.

We have great please in working with Santosh to create his own personal online gallery “Madhubani Hub“. Take a moment to shop his gallery [https://indianfolkart.org/artists/madhunani-hub/] and give us your feedback.
