Tree of life is a universal symbol of life, prosperity and positivity. It is deeply rooted whereas the branches reach for the sky – it acts as a link among the three worlds of heaven, earth and the underworld.
Kalamkari derives its name from the Persian word where ‘Kalam’ refers to ‘pen’ and ‘Kari’ means ‘craftsmanship’. It was originally the art of hand painting on fabric using bamboo pens or hand blocks. Different motifs such as peacocks, flowers, and divine characters from Ramayana and Mahabharata are drawn. While these are mostly drawn on fabric, artists have been practicing them on canvas too in the current times. Kalamkari is mostly practiced largely in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
