After the successful hosting of the International Children’s Art Competition, Young Indian Folk Artist 2021, and Lok Kala Ratna Award 2021, International Indian Folk Art Gallery (IIFAG) Australia continues its pursuit to identify hidden & gifted talent to revive Indian Folk Art and Artists around the world.

IIFAG invites applications for the selection of Lok Kala Ratna Award 2022, for World’s Best Indian Folk Artist.

Lok Kala Ratna Award 2022, is an Annual International Indian Folk Art competition and exhibition for all Indian Folk Artists and presented by IIFAG Australia. The competition is open to all citizens of the world.

Indian Folk Artist will be competing in any of the below five Indian Folk Art Categories, these includes folk arts from the five regions of India, such as North, East, South, West and Central region. Please see list of approved Indian Folk Arts in the “conditions for entry and guidelines”

INDIAN FOLK ART CATEGORIES

From each artist group, one winner will be selected for each of these five categories. Further, the highest ranking artist in the competition from each artist group will be awarded “Lok Kala Ratna Award 2022”. All winners will receive a cash prize, along with a certificate of recognition, free personal online gallery as “featured artist” and an opportunity to exhibit at some of the prestigious galleries in India and overseas.

  1. Indian Folk Art – Southern region
  2. Indian Folk Art – Northern region
  3. Indian Folk Art – Central region
  4. Indian Folk Art – Eastern region
  5. Indian Folk Art – Western region

ARTIST GROUPING

  1. Group A: Children’s group: Age 10 and below
  2. Group B: Children’s group: Age 11 to 15
  3. Group C: Amateur Artist
  4. Group D: Professional Artist
Judging Process:

The artworks will be technically assessed by a panel of Independent judges. The final ranking will be based on combination of judge scores and public voting.

Enrolment for Lok Kala Ratna Award 2022, International Indian Folk Art competition will be open from 14th April to 30th May 2022. Winners will be announced on 14th August 2022. Competition timelines are as follows

  • 14th April – 30th May 2022: Nominations open for artwork submission
  • 1st June – 15th June 2022: Qualification of artworks to check compliance to competition guidelines
  • 16th June – 30th June 2022: Judging Process (Technical scoring)
  • 1st July – 15th July: Public Voting
  • 1st July – 15th July: Judges online Interview with artists (final verification)
  • 16th July – 31st July 2022: Physical submission of artworks (For selected finalist only)
  • 15th August 2022: Prize presentation ceremony
  • December 2022 – 2023: Exhibition

Lok Kala Ratna Award 2022 will be awarded to one artist from each Artist Group.  Winners will be selected based on the highest competition score, from both Judges and Public voting process.

In addition Twenty (20) winners will receive cash prizes in following categories.

2. Artwork Submission

  1. Each artwork submitted must follow the unique styles, methodology, and theme of traditional Indian Folk Art.
  2. In order to qualify for a winning prize in each artist group, there must be a minimum of ten artists in that category.
  3. All entrants and entrant’s parents/guardian for Children, are responsible to ensure the artwork is produced by the entrant and does not infringe the copyright or any other rights of the third party. The entrant indemnifies the organisers (IIFAG) against any loss resulting from a breach of these copyright violations.
  4. All submitted artwork must be completed in full.
  5. Artworks that do not comply to Indian Folk Art categories will be disqualified, See reference article
  6. Copied artworks will be disqualified, especially for Amateur and Professional Artists. If winning artwork is found as copied, the title will be removed and artist will be required to return the winning trophy and cash prize in full to IIFAG, within 30 days of notice.
  7. To validate the authenticity, all shortlisted finalists will be required to submit their video, should the artist fail to submit the video, IIFAG reserves the right to disqualify the artwork. All artists are required to record
    1. A minimum of 2-minute continuous video during the sketching/drawing stage
    2. And, another two minute video during final colouring process
  8. All artworks must be recent and not have been created prior to 1st Jan 2022.
  9. Artwork size
    1. IIFAG recommends a minimum of A3 Size base for Children (Group A & B)
    2. A minimum size A2 or A1 for Amateur and professional artists (Group C & D)
  10. Back of all artworks, they must be signed, dated and clearly labelled with
    1. The artist’s name,
    2. contact details,
    3. Size of the painting in centimeters.
    4. Approx. weight in grams (including packing)
  11. The entrant must be the owner of the artwork and they must submit “self-attested authentication certificate” in order to meet the requirement of the competition. Download copy from here>>
  12. Artist can submit up to five artworks, but no more than one will be selected for the final prize
  13. Once submitted, no changes can be made to the artwork. Should any changes be made after submission, IIFAG reserves the right to disqualify the artwork
  14. Only finalist/winning artworks will be required to be submitted physically. All such artworks should reach the IIFAG, in Australia or India office address for verification before 15th July 2022. Address will be communicated by email at a later date. IIFAG reserves the right to disqualify the artworks, if they are not received by due date.
  15. As a finalist and winner, you grant IIFAG a fee-free, non-exclusive license to reproduce the artwork as necessary to publish or communicate it to the public.
  16. All winning artwork may be offered for sale at exhibitions between November 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023, and will be recorded in a price list. Proceeds from the sale will go back to the artist, less tax, framing costs, bank fees (3%), and gallery commission (30%).
  17. Entrants may choose a list price for each artwork.
  18. All artwork exhibited in galleries but not sold must be collected at their own cost, along with the cost of framing from our Chennai office on or before September 15, 2023.

3. Shortlisting Process

  1. A panel of judges will shortlist entrants for the final exhibition based on technical scoring. This will be followed by public voting/scoring through IndianFolkArt.Org online portal.
  2. The selection criteria for judges will include the following
    1. Beauty in art
    2. Originality and Uniqueness
    3. Skill and technique (Use of traditional methods as closely as possible)
    4. Inherent meaning explained in the write-up
    5. Full filled intent of the theme
  3. Based on the overall scoring, Finalist and winners will be selected by the panel of judges
  4. All entrants will be notified as to the shortlisting outcome by email and through IndianFolkArt.Org online portal. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into with IIFAG
  5. The panel of judges has the right to exclude any artwork which it considers as defamatory or likely to cause offence or do not meet shortlisting criteria.
  6. Shortlisted winners should make themselves (or nominate a representative) and the artwork available for promotion of the prize and artwork at exhibition, at the invitation of IIFAG

4. Exhibition of shortlisted and finalist

  1. Artworks shortlisted for the exhibition must be presented professionally, without any dirt or contamination
  2. Acquisitive prize recipients will agree to transfer full ownership of the artwork (excluding copyright) to IIFAG at no costs, to be housed and presented at IndianFolkArt.Org. The prize recipient will continue to retain all copyright in the artwork
  3. Placement of Artwork in the exhibition will be the decision of IIFAG
  4. IIFAG will be responsible for insuring the artwork during the agreed loan period for the artwork value nominated on the entry form
  5. Artwork may be offered for sale via  IndianFolkArt.Org online portal based on entrants list price or higher

Who can apply?
  1. Lok Kala Ratna Award 2022 is open to all artist of the world, children, young adults, amateur and professional artists.
  2. For Group A and B, The artist age will be calculated as of 1st January 2022
  3. Professional artist must provide evidence of their business or government issued Artisan ID card.
  4. Must comply with conditions of entry

Entry fees
  1. Non-refundable, $A10 (INR 600.00) per artwork, payable online via PayTM (Indian Artist) or Stripe, outside Indian using Credit/Debit card.
  2. For additional artwork $A5 (INR 275.00) per artwork, with a maximum of 5 artworks allowed.
Qualification process
  • All qualified submissions will be assessed by both, a panel of judges and via an online public voting system.
  • Finalist and award recipients will be announced during the awards presentation ceremony.
